Martin Morgan reflects on joining Signal as Chairman

I am thrilled and honoured to have become Signal’s Chairman.

Last Autumn I became an investor in the company and through that process met David Benigson, Signal’s founder and CEO. Over the next few months we spoke frequently about the next phase for the company, which in turn lead to David inviting me to become Chairman.

When I retired from being CEO of the media and information company Daily Mail and General Trust, I decided that I wanted to get back to what I had enjoyed most during my time there: creating and building up the business to business information division. To do that I wanted to invest in young companies and work as a Chairman with founder entrepreneurs to assist them in building innovative growth companies.

Over the last 25 years I have experienced a series of significant innovations in technology serving the news and information industry, and artificial intelligence and the use of machine learning is clearly one of the biggest advances yet. It is going to fundamentally transform the way many industries operate. Signal is at the forefront of that change, and has a remarkable technology advantage at its heart, giving it enormous global growth potential.

In addition to the innovative technology applications which Signal is deploying, the quality of the team which David has built around him was a key reason why I decided to take on the Chairman’s role. Their talent and commitment are outstanding and will be the deciding factor in why the company is going to succeed big time.

The technology is evolving fast and its potential applications are broad; I’m convinced that AI will become a core tool for businesses and their leaders in the near future. I am looking forward to supporting David and his team as they develop the platform and product suite to address these use cases, and to take it to new markets and clients. Having lived and worked in the USA, I plan to play a part in Signal’s ambitions to expand into what is a very large potential market.

When David announced the Series A funding round in December, he spoke of the next exciting chapter for Signal as it grows and matures as a business and organisation. As Chairman, I am delighted to be a part of it, and I cannot wait to get started.
